Mustafa Jabbar calls for rethinking about telco corporate tax

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar has called on the National Board of Revenue to reconsider the corporate tax levied on telecom operators.

He made the call while participating in a virtual round table meeting titled 'Accelerating Digital Transformation in Bangladesh: Recommendations for Mobile-Sector Taxation Reform' on Thursday, May 8.

At the same time, the minister called on telco operators to increase investment in the country's technology sector.

Taking part in the program, Shyam Sundar Sikder, Chairman, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, voted in favor of waiving the tax imposed on SIM.

In response to a question on the occasion, Nicholas Features, Senior Economic Research Manager, GSMA, said that Bangladesh ranks third in terms of taxes and revenue.

Salman F Rahman, Private Industry and Investment Adviser to the Prime Minister and former President of FBCCI, Md. Sirajul Islam, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Afzal Hossain, Secretary of Posts and Telecommunications Department, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of Robi , Banglalink Chief Executive Eric Aas and others spoke on the occasion.
